A Pop Art (ou arte pop)  surgiu na década de 50 Inglaterra, mas atingiu seu auge na década de 60 aqui em Nova Iorque. Os trabalhos dos artistas com esse perfil se caracterizavam, em grande parte, pelo desenho simplificado e pelas cores saturadas para explorar as questões relevantes da época. Um de seus maiores representantes é o artista Robert Indiana, o qual ficou famoso por seu estilo super otimista para endereçar temas importantes como o amor, a morte, o pecado e o perdão. Sua obra LOVE, imagem que foi criada para um cartão de natal do MoMa em 1966, o consagrou como um grande nome e foi responsável por muitos não prestarem a devida atenção a outras tantas obras incríveis que produziu.

Bom, para que seu trabalho fosse devidamente honrado, começou ontem no Whitney Museum aqui em NY uma retrospectiva – Beyond Love – que  foca na diversidade do trabalho de Indiana e que representa a maior exibição já feita de suas obras. Está realmente imperdível, pois há trabalhos que vieram até mesmo da coleção pessoal do artista e de colecionadores privados.  A exibição fica aberta até dia 05 de Janeiro de 2014.

Pop Art is an art movement that emerged in the 50’s but reached its peak in the 60’s here in New York. The artists that were in this category were mainly characterized by its simple drawings and by the saturated colors used in their work to express and explore relevant issues at that time. One of its most relevant names is artist Robert Indiana, who became famous for its very optimistic style when addressing relevant issues like love, death, sin, and forgiveness.  His work, LOVE, an image developed for a MoMa Christmas card from 1966, made him a strong name in the area, but was also responsible for overshadowing some of the great work he developed over the years. 

Well, in order to properly honor Indiana’s work, Whitney Museum in NY has put together an excellent retrospective that opened yesterday. Beyond Love focuses on the diversity of Robert’s work and represents the largest exhibit ever presented with his creations. You really can’t miss it, since there are works that even came from the artist’s own collection and from private collectors as well. It will be open until January 5^th, 2014.
