A Queer History of Fashion: From the Closet to the Catwalk

Mais uma exibição estreia no museu do Fashion Institute of Technology e, dessa vez, o foco é sobre a moda e o design inspirados no “Queer Fashion” ou seja na moda Gay, Lésbica, Bissexual e Transexual.

Grandes estilistas como Alexandre McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, Versace e John Galliano estão sendo representados nesta exposição que possui mais de 100 modelos diferentes e será uma homenagem a preferência sexual dos estilistas que estão com criações sendo expostas.

A moda mostrada também possui referência em acontecimentos históricos como a concretização do casamento entre gays e a crise de AIDS no país. Outros estilos incluem peças unissex, uniformes, peças de couro, saias para homens e roupa íntima usada com outros propósitos.

A exposição já começou e vai até dia 4 de janeiro de 2014. Para todos os amantes da moda, vale a pena conhecer pois traz um lado diferenciado e interessante. O museu possui entrada gratuita.

 

Another exhibition has come to the Museum at FIT and this time the fashion is somewhat unexpected. The focus is on the fashion and designs inspired on “Queer Fashion”; in other words, Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender fashion.

Great designers like Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, Versace, and John Galliano come together with their works that fit in the theme of the exhibition, and carries over 100 ensembles and honors the Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual designers of the past and the present.  

The fashion displayed also shows reference to a few historical happenings like stabilizing gay marriage and the AIDS crisis in the country. Other styles include unisex fashion, uniforms, leather pieces, skirts for men, and underwear used as outerwear. 

The exhibition has already started and will last until January 4th, 2014. For all fashion lovers, this is an exhibit worth visiting. It brings the unexpected, the interesting, and the differential all together. Entrance is free at the museum.
